Chinese language coastguard and navy forces took half in a big land-air-sea emergency rescue train close to the disputed Woody Island on Thursday, as Beijing continues to say its claims within the South China Sea.
Greater than 200 personnel, 15 vessels and two rescue helicopters carried out what was described by the federal government and state media as “the most important rescue drill lately”.
Woody Island, referred to as Yongxing Island by China, is a part of the Paracel Islands, a contested archipelago referred to as the Xisha Islands in Chinese language.
Thursday’s drills had been co-hosted by the Folks’s Liberation Military, China Coast Guard and town authorities of Sansha, established in 2012 to say Beijing’s territorial claims within the South China Sea.
The 75-minute drill simulated a number of emergency situations primarily based on latest accidents, state broadcaster CCTV mentioned.
