Hong Kong maintains ban on seafood from 10 Japanese prefectures

Hong Kong has underscored the necessity for prudence in permitting Japanese seafood imports after Beijing partially lifted its personal ban on such merchandise, which had been put in place over issues about waste water discharged from the decommissioned Fukushima nuclear energy plant.

In a press release issued within the early hours of Monday, a Hong Kong authorities spokesman stopped wanting saying whether or not the town would rethink import restrictions on Japanese seafood, which had been in place since August 2023.

“The [Hong Kong] authorities has been sustaining communication with the Japanese authority on the related points, together with requesting Japan to offer info on newest developments and scientific proof in regards to the discharge of the nuclear-contaminated water, to evaluate whether or not there are situations for stress-free the present precautionary measures,” he stated.

On Sunday, China’s Basic Administration of Customs stated it could instantly resume importing sea merchandise from Japan, excluding 10 prefectures: Tokyo, Fukushima, Chiba, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Miyagi, Niigata, Nagano and Saitama.
