The drive is marked by New Delhi’s newest bid to amass the Rs 30,000 crore (US$3.6 billion) Indigenous Fast Response Floor-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system, after it fended off Turkish-origin drones and Chinese language-made missiles launched by Pakistan final month on the peak of clashes.
The proposal for 3 QRSAM regiments is anticipated to be reviewed by the Ministry of Defence in a coming assembly of the defence acquisition council set for later this month, in line with Indian information company ANI.
International-affairs specialist Robinder Sachdev, founder and president of Delhi-based suppose tank Imagindia Institute, says the QRSAM system is a crucial addition to India’s layered air defence community, developed indigenously by the Defence Analysis and Growth Organisation.
“Following the waves of Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones and Chinese language-origin Wing Loong-II UCAVs deployed by Pakistan, India is investing in capabilities that supply fast mobility, autonomous response, and indigenous sustainability,” Sachdev stated.
India’s defence procurement now centred on indigenisation, Sachdev stated, including it was estimated that within the monetary 12 months 2024–25, greater than 65 per cent of defence capital procurement contracts had been awarded to home distributors.
