Pure nappers: monitoring the sleeping patterns of untamed orangutans

Sleep, as William Shakespeare wrote in Macbeth, is the “balm of damage minds, nice nature’s second course, chief nourisher in life’s feast”. Little surprise, then, that taking a nap has enduring attraction. Sufficient sleep is required for good well being. However how do such behaviours evolve, and what can researchers study from learning them in primates?
