A 51-year-old Hong Kong resident has been arrested for working an unlawful slaughterhouse in Yuen Lengthy, the place 150 stay goats have been found on a website with “extraordinarily poor hygiene”.

Authorities stated the Meals and Environmental Hygiene Division, in a joint operation with police on Thursday, raided a secluded, enclosed plot of land spanning Ngan Kam Highway within the New Territories, following a tip-off that somebody was promoting mutton on-line and was suspected of illegally slaughtering goats on the market.

“The concerned location was secluded, with an space of about 6,000 sq. meters (64,583 sq ft), and round 150 stay goats have been reared inside it,” stated Senior Well being Inspector Juliana Ng Wing-in.

She added that the positioning was discovered with “extraordinarily poor hygiene and rudimentary tools, and that there have been no certified professionals current to examine the livestock.”

Ng stated through the raid, officers discovered actions according to unlawful slaughtering and the sale of mutton, and believed the goats have been bred from inside the premises.

Round 52kg (114lbs) of mutton and offal of unknown origin, with an estimated market worth of HK$30,000 (US$3,821), was seized and destroyed.

A further 10kg of suspected illegally slaughtered mutton and offal was sealed for additional investigation.
