The ultimate day of the German Monitor Biking Championships was deserted after a number of spectators had been injured when two cyclists crashed into the gang.

The incident occurred on the ultimate bend of the lads’s keirin semi-finals as the 2 riders careered over the obstacles at a pace of about 35mph on the monitor in Dudenhofen, western Germany.

Seven spectators had been injured, some severely, with two needing to be airlifted to hospital. The 2 cyclists escaped with minor accidents.

Two helicopters, six ambulances and an emergency physician attended the incident.

“The well being of athletes and spectators at all times comes first. Cancelling the occasion was due to this fact unavoidable. Greatest needs for a speedy restoration exit to all these injured,” stated German Biking advertising and marketing and communications officer Oliver Streich.

Chairman of Dudenhofen Biking Membership, Jens Hartwig, stated: “I am shocked by the accident. We have had a biking competition right here in Dudenhofen for 5 days. After all, no-one needed the occasion to finish like this. I want everybody concerned a speedy and full restoration.”
