Tributes paid to hero Chinese language physician who drowned after saving girl in Tanzania

China has paid tribute to a Chinese language physician in Tanzania who died saving a girl in misery within the sea, saying his heroism exemplified the deep China-Africa friendship and the dedication of Chinese language medical groups.

Zhang Junqiao, a 38-year-old anaesthesiologist working in Tanzania as a part of a Chinese language medical group, went to the help of the drowning Tanzanian girl off Dar es Salaam on June 15. Pictures from the scene confirmed Zhang preserving her afloat whereas serving to her right into a life jacket moments earlier than he went beneath the waves.

Zhang died regardless of his colleagues’ efforts to rescue him.

On Tuesday, China’s international ministry hailed Zhang’s actions as an embodiment of China-Africa ties and the “dedication, dedication, love and preventing spirit of Chinese language medical groups”.
